Kevin Maher

Partner, MVB GP Cert (Cardio) MRCVS

Kevin graduated in 1982 from UCD and worked in New Ross for 3 years before joining his father Kevin Maher Snr’s practice in Athy in 1985. Kevin worked mostly with large animals for 10 years, until the small animal practice grew steadily from the mid-nineties. He has a special interest in diagnostic imaging, (including radiology and ultrasound scanning) and cardio-respiratory conditions, Kevin achieved a certificate in cardiology in 2012. With a multitude of associated relevant courses attended mostly abroad, and a wealth of experience in soft tissue surgery and challenging medical cases, Kevin thrives on the challenges of day to day veterinary practice. He is married to Gillian, with 4 boys and they have a Basset hound called Millie, making life busy at home as well as in work.

Andrew Doona

Partner, MVB GP Cert (SAS) MRCVS

Andrew is originally from a mixed farm in Co. Kerry. He studied Veterinary Medicine in UCD and qualified in 1992. He spent 2 years working in Tipperary in mixed practice before moving to London where he gained valuable experience in small animal and equine practices. He returned to Ireland in 1997, where he gained partnership with Kevin Maher. He is an enthusiastic and progressive vet and has enjoyed expanding and developing the practice over the years. He achieved the GP Cert in Small animal surgery in 2011. He particularly enjoys surgery both small and large animal and excels at orthopaedic surgery, where he keeps up to date with all the latest techniques by attending seminars and courses when his busy schedule allows. Outside of work, Andrew does the occasional triathlon, plays soccer, cuts the grass and provides a taxi service to his three children!

Tom Spillane

Partner, MVB Cert(CSM) MRCVS

Tom graduated from UCD in 1992 and having gained much valuable experience working in a variety of practices both small and mixed practice in Ireland and UK. He gained partnership with Kevin and Andrew in 1998. He completed a post-graduate certificate in Canine Sports Medicine in 2010. He endeavors to provide a competent, thorough and professional service in a friendly atmosphere to all our clients. He is from Limerick and is married with four children. His interests outside work include sport, sport and well – more sport!

Aisling O’Brien DVM

Veterinary Surgeon

Aislin hails from West Clare. She graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2012. Aisling has a keen interest in small animal internal medicine. In her spare time, she likes to keep fit, likes reading, listening to music and going to the cinema.

Natasha Tannian DVM

Natasha is from Co, Galway and qualified in 2014 from Szent Istvan University Budapest. Natasha started in Vetcare in 2015 and has a keen interest in Small Animal Internal Medicine and Herd Health.

Dee Warnakulasooriya

Dee is originally from Melbourne, Australia. He graduated from Melbourne University as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2014 and went on to work in various practices throughout Australia in mixed practice, emergency small animal practice and in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2018, Dee moved to Ireland with his fiance and joined Vetcare. Dee enjoys all aspects of general practice and working with all species, large and small. In his spare time, he plays golf, enjoys the outdoors ( when the weather is good ), goes hiking with his partner and their Springer Spaniel. Dee also follows various sports.

Claire Mc Cann DVM LLB

Claire is from Hollywood, Co, Wicklow. She graduated form Griffith College in 2008 with an LLB in Irish law, then graduated from Szent Istvan University Budapest in 2018. Claire worked in mixed practice in Newbridge for a year before joining Vetcare. Claire enjoys mixed practice, going to the cinema, horseriding and hiking.


Shauna Doyle


Shauna studied Veterinary Nursing in Dundalk institute of technology and graduated in October 2014. She lives in Newbridge and in her spare time plays Gaelic and Camogie for Moorefield GAA. Her favorite aspect of nursing is surgical nursing. She has two dogs at home and her favorite breed is Labrador.

Mairead Coleman


Mairead graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Nursing from UCD in 2013. She started her career in Tipperary where she spent three and a half years before joining Vetcare in January 2017. She enjoys all aspects of nursing especially surgical nursing and running nurse clinics especially weight management clinics. Back home in Lismore, Co, Waterford, she enjoys helping on the family farm, hill walking and catching up with the GAA.

Emma Twamley


Emma has just qualified with a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Nursing. She is from Carlow and began working in Vetcare in August 2015. Emma loves working with pets and also has an interest in lab work. Her leisure time includes horse riding and keeping fit.

Leslie Stanley


Leslie has worked in Vetcare Athy as Receptionist since 2007. Her job (arguable the most difficult of all our roles!) is one of a juggling act managing a busy reception desk and shop and uses all her expertise reassuring many an anxious client when “Fluffy” is unwell. She originally came from Rathdowney, and having lived and worked in Dublin for 14 years returned to live in Co. Laois where she now lives with her husband and two kids. In her spare time, she likes to read, swim and go jogging.

Marie Cahill

Professional Groomer

Marie is originally from Clogh, near Castlecomer but now lives in Timahoe, Co Laois. She joined the Vetcare team in August 2016, having completed her Fetac Level 5 in Animal Care and Fetac Level 6 in Animal Science in Carlow IT. She comes from a farming background and has always had a passion for animals, especially horses. Marie also has a degree in Business and Equine from Athlone Institute of Technology and worked as a show jumping groom for over two years. At the weekends she enjoys nothing more than chilling out with her two Bernese Mountain dogs, ‘Lucy’ and ‘Sadie’ or out on her horse ‘Annie May’.

Tricia Mc Donagh


Tricia is the longest standing member of the practice having first started working with Kevin Maher Snr. in the original clinic. She learned from him that attention to detail was paramount and tries to apply that in her work. She has tried her hand at every part of work at the clinic and has seen changes in the practice over years. Accounts are now her primary role. She qualified as an Accounting Technician in 2005 and payroll Technician in 2006.

Linda Langton


Linda lives in Barrowhouse outside Athy. She joined the practice in 2005 and works alongside Tricia in the accounts department in the Athy Branch., looking after the accounts payable section. Although she is rarely seen by our clients, as she works in the back office, if you listen carefully at reception you may be able to hear her infectious laughter and good humour!

Pamela Stacey


Pamela works in admin in the Vetcare Athy covering reception and TB testing administration. She qualified with a degree in Agriculture from UCD and subsequently worked in ruminant research and large animal veterinary practice in Meath. She has two rescue cats, “Garfield” and “Mr. Marm”. Her interests are wildlife photography and all things equine, especially spending her free time with her horse “Jack”.

Carol Cullen


Carol comes from Athy. She has been part of the Vetcare team for the past 12 years both in Athy and more recently in Rathcoole. She graduated in 2011 from Athlone IT with a Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Nursing). She has a special interest in canine behaviour and has a pack of nine dogs from Chihuahuas (Patch & Stella) to a Newfoundland (Gus)

Gemma Campion


Gemma is originally from Athy and has worked with Vetcare Athy since 2005 although occasionally covers in our other branches. She has been nursing since 2001 and graduated from St. Johns College Cork with a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Animal Care. She has completed a Pet Health Councilor course and enjoys advising clients about nutrition and general care of their pets during our nurse clinics. She enjoys all aspects of nursing including medical and surgical nursing. She loves to travel and has worked as a nurse during her time in Australia. She has a rescue dog and two cats, which initially came in to the clinic abandoned.


Andrina Lyons


She has worked with Vetcare Portlaoise for 9 years now after leaving a government job in Dublin to pursue a career with animals. She graduated from UCD as a Veterinary Nurse. She knows many of our clients on a personal level. She loves interacting with ours clients and has a particularly keen interest in animal welfare. On days off I like to take my rescue shepherds ‘Rheben’ and ‘Roxie’ on long walks in the countryside. I love to run and recently have taken up gardening. I like arts and crafts projects such as drawing and painting and upcycling furniture.

Jessica O’Brien


Jessica graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Nursing from UCD in 2017. Since graduating she has worked in both mixed and small animal emergency practice, before joining Vetcare in October 2018. She particularly enjoys emergency and critical care nursing. Outside of work, Jessica enjoys reading, hiking and travelling.

Stephanie Foyle

Professional Pet Groomer

Stephanie grew up in Ballinakill, Co. Laois and later moved to Portlaoise itself. Having been around animals all her life it was not difficult to decide that a career working with animals was for her. She studied Animal Care and Science in Carlow Institute of Further Education. It was here she practiced and studied grooming and loves transforming and pampering dogs on a daily basis. She has been the resident groomer with Vetcare Portlaoise since 2014. She enjoys seeing the happy faces of her regular clients. In her spare time, she enjoys playing with and training her Border Collie ‘Ellie’ and visiting different area of the country and seeing new sites.

Rachel Palmer RVN

Rachel studied Veterinary Nursing in Athlone Institute of Technology and graduated in 2017. Rachel joined the Vetcare team in December 2018. She became interested in veterinary nursing as she has had a wide range of pets from ferrets to chickens to horses. She enjoys all aspects of nursing. During the weekend, she plays rugby with the Portlaoise ladies rugby team.


Lorraine Dowty


Lorraine qualified as a Veterinary Nurse through the RCVS in 1992. She attained her large animal, equine and management certificates whilst working referral practice in the UK for 12 years. She enjoys teaching and has worked as a full-time lecturer at Bershire Agricultural College in the UK. She loves critical care, feline behavior and geriatric nursing in particular. She has worked in Vetcare Carlow since 2003. She is happily married to Jason and has two little boys, along with two hairy babies Scoobie and Bessie! For fun, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Lauren Grant


Lauren qualified a Veterinary nurse in 1999 with the RCVS in London. She completed a Pet Health Counsellor Course in 2004. She is currently studying for a Nurses Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care, which she hopes to complete in 2015. She has been a part of the Vetcare team since 2002, initially in Athy and currently in Vetcare Carlow. She lives in Tipperary with her husband John and her two children Megan and Thomas. Her hobbies include travelling, eating out, reading and working on her family farm.

Catherine Lennon


Catherine has worked with Vetcare Carlow since 2006. She qualified in 2010 from UCD with a diploma in Veterinary Nursing. Her area of special interest is animal welfare and all her pets are rescues including three dogs (2 jack russells and 1 staffiex), and 5 cats. She regularly takes home stray cats and kittens, the occasional dog and any small wildlife that extra bit of TLC!

Marie Ayers

Professional Pet Groomer

Marie is our resident pet Groomer in Vetcare Carlow. She has 14 years experience in grooming, 12 of which has been spent working with the Vetcare team. She very much enjoys her job and nothing satisfies her more than spending hours working on a neglected coat and making it look beautiful again and the reaction from the pet’s owner when they see their pets amazing transformation.


Chloe Beattie


Chloe studied Veterinary Nursing in Athlone Institute of Technology and graduated in November 2017. She saw practice in Vetcare Athy during her studies before joining the team in Rathcoole that year. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing and is always eager to greet patients upon their visit to the clinic. Chloe spends her spare time with her two dogs, horse riding and checking in on the family farm at home.

Natasha McEnroy


In 2015, Natasha graduated from Greenmount College with a diploma in Veterinary Nursing. She has one cat, one dog and four guinea pigs of her own. She has keen interest in the care of orthopaedic patients and enjoys radiology. Her hobbies are Gaelic football and cycling.

Fiona Nolan

Fiona is our groomer in Vetcare Rathcoole since 2014. She graduated from Bray Institute of Technology with a Certificate in Animal Science and Management. She is passionate about animal welfare and has four dogs, three cats and a bearded dragon.
